Historical Background of Sohag University
Sohag University, established in 2006, stands as a testament to Egypt's commitment to higher education
and regional development. Initially, the educational landscape of Sohag began with the founding
of the Faculty of Education in 1971. Over the years, this evolved as other faculties such as Science, Arts
and Medicine were integrated under various university branches, including Assiut University and South Valley University.
In 2006, Sohag University was officially founded to consolidate these faculties into a single institution
offering comprehensive programs across diverse fields. The university operates across two campuses:
the original campus in eastern Sohag and a sprawling new campus in the New City of Sohag
covering a total area of approximately 1,000 acres.
