Residence Permit for Non-EU Students

Non-EU students planning to stay in Romania for longer than 90 days must apply for a residence permit.

This is essential to legally reside in Romania for the duration of their studies.

The application must be submitted to the General Inspectorate for Immigration in the city or county where the student resides.

The application should be lodged at least 30 days before the expiry of the current visa.

- Documents Required:

  • Application form (in Romanian)

  • Passport (original and notarised copy)

  • Letter of acceptance for studies (only required for the first extension)

  • Certificate from the educational institution indicating full-time enrollment

  • Proof of financial means (bank statement or affidavit indicating the ability to support oneself)

  • Proof of residence (rental agreement or equivalent documents)

  • Medical certificate indicating the absence of diseases that may threaten public health

  • Health insurance (for students over 26 years)

  • Application fees (paid at CEC BANK or other local banks)

The residence permit is valid for up to one year and must be renewed annually.

Residence Permit for EU Students

EU students and those from countries with visa-free agreements with Romania can enter the country with their passport or ID.

They must apply for a Registration Certificate within 90 days of arrival.

This certificate is valid for up to five years and is issued on the same day the application is submitted.

Application Steps

- Step 1: Gather Necessary Documents

Before you start the online application process, make sure you have all the required documents prepared:

  • Copy of Passport: Including the pages with personal information and visa.

  • Copy of Student Visa: Ensure it's clear and legible.

  • Entry Stamp: A copy of the stamp showing your entry into Romania.

  • Acceptance Letter: From your Romanian university.

  • Student Proof (Adeverința): Issued by your university.

  • Bank Statement: Showing a balance of at least 4000 euros, dated within three days of your online application.

  • Rental Agreement: Legally certified, covering at least one year.

  • Medical Certificate: From a licensed doctor or clinic in Romania.

  • Application Fees: Proof of payment for the residence permit fees:

    • 259 RON: Paid to CNIN account no. 10RNCB0082044172830514 at any BCR bank.
    • 120 Euros: Converted and paid in RON.

- Step 2: Submit Online Application

  • Create an Account: Visit the General Inspectorate for Immigration Portal and create an account.

  • Fill Out the Form: Complete the online application form with your details.

  • Upload Documents: Scan and upload all the necessary documents.

- Step 3: Wait for Confirmation

After submitting your application, you will receive an email with an appointment date and time at your local immigration office.

This email confirms that your documents have been initially reviewed.

- Step 4: Visit the Immigration Office
