Dear friend, you are now in the post-university phase, which is expected to be a challenging period for some individuals.

During this time, people may face various challenges that cause stress and pressure, and some may even experience depression as a result of these challenges.

In this article, I have gathered some reasons that may lead to post-college depression and some ways to cope with it

Causes of Post-University Depression

- Job Search Pressures

The job search after graduation can be a source of stress and anxiety

especially if there is uncertainty about the right career direction or difficulty finding a suitable job.

- Life Changes

Major life changes, such as transitioning from the college environment to the real world

adapting to new responsibilities, and exploring job possibilities, can be a source of psychological stress.

- Feelings of Lost or Failure

Uncertainty about the future or the inability to achieve set career goals can lead to feelings of failure or being lost.

 Separation from Friends

After graduation, individuals may move to new cities or environments

leading to separation from friends and a lack of the social support that was available during college.

 -Staying at Home and Isolation

Avoid falling into depression and negative thoughts. Engage in daily exercise

even if you're not a member of any sports club. Take a walk or jog in public areas.

Dealing with Post-University Depression

- Talk to Others

Speak with friends or family members about your feelings and concerns.

If you experience ongoing depression, seeking professional help through psychological counseling can be beneficial.

- Set Short and Long-Term Goals

Try setting small, tangible goals that you can achieve gradually. This can help enhance your sense of accomplishment.

- Maintain a Healthy Lifestyle

Regular exercise, a healthy diet, and adequate sleep contribute to improving mood and overall well-being.

- Positive Thinking

Attempt to change negative thoughts into positive ones. Focus on the positive aspects of your life and your abilities.

Preparing for the Job Market

- Develop Personal and Professional Skills

Identify the skills needed in your desired field and develop them through training courses

practical exercises, volunteering, and personal experiences that add value to your field.

- Prepare Your Resume (CV)

Create an updated and organized resume that reflects your qualifications, experiences, and skills.

Customize it for each job application to match the job requirements.

- Serious Job Search

Your post-college job is to search for a job until you are actually employed.

Dedicate 8 hours a day for five days a week to actively search for jobs, both online and offline.

- Build Networking

Establish relationships with professionals in your specific career field.

Social media platforms like LinkedIn or professional events and activities can be excellent opportunities to expand your network.

- Prepare for Job Interviews

Practice job interviews and prepare well for them. Research common interview questions and try to develop effective answers.

- Stay Informed About Your Industry

Being aware of the latest developments and changes in your field can increase your value as a potential candidate.

- Identify Your Passion and Interests

Analyze your skills and areas of interest. Discover what skills you possess and what activities you enjoy.

- Virtual Job Market Research

Use online job search platforms like LinkedIn, Indeed, Bayt, and others.

Create an updated profile, update your resume, follow people and their work, and notice your attraction to specific fields.

- Utilize Social Networks

Connect with friends, former colleagues, teachers, or people in the industry you are interested in.

They may have job opportunities or valuable suggestions.

- Attend Job Fairs

Attend job fairs or various professional events.

These events can be a good opportunity for direct communication with employers and submitting your resume.

Finding the right and suitable job might take time. Be patient, continue seeking, and make an effort.

Don't be discouraged by rejections in interviews; instead, study the interview, identify your strengths and weaknesses, and learn from your mistakes.

Before starting to apply the previously mentioned steps, whether searching for a suitable job or discovering your passion

we advise you to take a break for a month or two. Use this time to relax your mind and avoid overthinking.

The university and post-university phases are crucial periods for personal skill development.

Therefore, it is important to continue learning new skills and developing existing ones, as strong skills brings money, not just certificates.

A university degree ensures you a place and eligibility in the job market, but it does not guarantee you a distinguished position.
